Reserve Reading Materials: The library no longer places materials on reserve automatically. Requests must be submitted to the library SIX WEEKS before the beginning of the term to guarantee that materials will be on reserve for first day of the term. Requests received after the deadline will be accepted, but cannot be guaranteed to be available by the first week of classes. Course reserve request forms are available in the library, or online www.auchicagolib.org under “faculty services.” Completed course reserve forms can be submitted in person, or e-mailed to kjanderson@argosy.edu.
Items that can be placed on reserve in the library include:
- Library books
- Your personal books if not owned by the Library
- Articles from journals owned by the Argosy University/ Chicago Library
Items that cannot be placed on reserve include:
- Articles which are copied from a journal that is not owned by the library
- Book chapters that are copied from a book not owned by the library or instructor (unless the book is out of print)
- Articles borrowed through interlibrary loan services
- Course packets that were ordered from Copyworks
Electronic Reserves: Instructors also have the option to place items on electronic reserve.
Items that can be placed on electronic reserve include:
- Articles available full-text in one of the library’s electronic databases
- Personal papers, sample papers, lecture notes
- Powerpoint documents
- Articles and other content available on the internet
Electronic reserve materials may be password protected by request. If you have any questions about electronic reserves –please contact the reference librarian at 312.777.7651.

Course Packets: Any materials that cannot be placed on reserve due to copyright restrictions must be submitted to Copyworks, the Argosy University course packet provider for copyright clearance.

The copyright clearance received from Copyworks is one time use only, which means duplications cannot be made from these materials. In order to comply with copyright law, the library cannot place these packets on reserve. However, the library may keep a copy of the course packet at the library circulation desk during the first week of the semester to accommodate students who have ordered, but have not yet received course packets from Copyworks. These packets will be marked “For Reading Only.”
Course Syllabus: The library no longer posts the syllabi for Business, Education, Organizational Leadership and Undergraduate programs since it is available within the E-college platform.
The Library will post syllabi and purchase requested textbooks for Clinical Psychology and Counselor Education programs. The library requires all course syllabus to be submitted to the Library six weeks prior to the commencement of the semester in order to make sure that all necessary materials are purchased, processed, and ready for use when the term starts. If a complete syllabus is not ready six weeks prior to a semester starts, please provide a “Preliminary” copy to the library. Course syllabus or the “Preliminary copy” must list ISBN #s for all textbooks.” Please use the guidelines listed in Master Syllabus for preparing the extended course syllabus. The syllabus is also considered the “official” book/materials listings and is used to place listings with www.mbsdirect.net - the online student textbook ordering service used by Argosy University.

Testing Materials: Any testing materials (including manuals and test forms) that students are required to purchase for class must be included in the course syllabus under “Required books.” It is also required that the following information is forwarded to the library at least 2 weeks before the start of the term to guarantee availability:
- Type and number of test materials needed for each course section
- List of names of students enrolled in the course
- Time & date when students are expected to come to the library to pick up/ purchase testing materials
- Length of time testing materials will be needed
E-mail this information to both the Library at auchilibrary@argosy.edu and the Library Director at qchen@argosy.edu.
Inform students that each kit needs to be thoroughly checked when picking-up and before returning. Students are responsible for any damage or missing parts. Please contact the Program Chair for further information.
Online Resources: The Library has a number of online databases that are available for student and faculty use. The library core collection, which includes the majority of databases, is accessible through the student portal. Faculty must login to the library core collection @ http://thecampuscommon.com/library/auo/login.aspx?g=true; Please contact the library for user name and password.
Some campus-based databases still require a separate user name and password, which are provided in the attached database list (contact the library) Do not share database logins with anyone outside the University. If you need training or have any questions about using the databases, please call the Reference Librarian at ext. 7651, or email fkallista@argosy.edu, or the Library Director at 312.777. 7650, or email qchen@argosy.edu. Descriptions of the online databases, as well as online tutorials on how to use the databases are also available at the library website at: www.auchicagolib.org.
Research and Instructional Services: Librarians are available to provide library instruction customized to meet the particular needs of your classes. Topics range from orientation sessions that offer an overview of library resources and basic search skills to assignment or class specific instruction, including search strategies for literature reviews and dissertation research. In addition, customized assignment or course specific research guides designed to help students access relevant research materials for your course are available on request.
Individual research consultations are also available to help you become more familiar with our resources, find the information and resources you need in the Library or online, or to create in-depth search strategies. Interlibrary Loan: Books, journal articles, some dissertations, and audio-visual materials not owned by the Argosy University, Chicago Library can be borrowed from other libraries through interlibrary loan. Requests may be submitted online through the interlibrary loan form at www.auchicagolib.org or directly through the EBSCO database. Please provide all necessary information requested on the form in order to ensure your request will be processed in a timely manner. If your TA or RA is assisting you, or submitting requests on your behalf, inform them that they need to list your name on the interlibrary loan form. Sometimes, fees are incurred in the interlibrary loans process and we need this information for billing purposes.
Although many articles arrive within two or three days, materials ordered through interlibrary loan arrive may sometimes take up to 10 working days, or longer. Contact the Reference Librarian at 312.777.7651, or email fkallista@argosy.edu if you have any questions.
